What is ESCCAP?

Founded in 2005, the European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites (ESCCAP) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation consisting of experts in the field of parasitology and public health from across Europe. It was formed to address the need for a consistent European approach to parasite control in pets, a subject which has become ever more important due to the increase in the movement and transportation of pets within Europe. (new paragraph) ESCCAP is a free and independent parasite control resource for veterinary professionals. Its primary function is to develop free best-practice guidelines for the treatment and control of parasites in pet animals. Its aim is to protect the health of pets, enhance the safety of the public and preserve the human–animal bond.

What are the ESCCAP guidelines?

The ESCCAP guidelines provide the veterinary professional with free, independent, up-to-date and scientifically robust advice on the most effective control, management and treatment of parasites in companion animals.

Do you supply parasite treatments to the public?

No, we do not supply or sell veterinary products. ESCCAP is solely an advice centre for veterinary professionals. Its primary function being to develop free best-practice guidelines for the treatment and control of parasites in pet animals.

Can you provide me with a list of references from your guidelines?

Unlike a text book or paper, the ESCCAP guidelines do not provide a reference list. If there is a particular statement in one of the guidelines that you would like to have a reference for then please contact the secretariat and we will forward your request to the guideline leader.

Where is ESCCAP based?

ESCCAP is a European organisation represented in sixteen different countries. The organisation has twelve affiliated national associations (NAs) with an ESCCAP member taking responsibility for each NA. Its secretariat is based in the UK.

How is ESCCAP funded?

ESCCAP is entirely funded by sponsorship. Currently, ESCCAP enjoys the support of several major pharmaceutical sponsors and a diagnostic company, each with different objectives and constraints, which demonstrates both the independence and endurance of the organisation.
